The Highside Playing Fields offers members very good facilities for summer sports. The summer season here would usually be described as from May to September, although it is not uncommon for rain to stop play and for games to be rescheduled!

Kirkby Malzeard Bowls Club

The Club has approximatelty 30 members who play on an excellent green at the Highside Playing Field. Membership is open to anyone of any age who wishes to play during the summer months (May - September). The Club has a number of Trophy and Cup Competitions played for over the season and enjoys friendly matches with other local clubs. These matches are usually played on a Tuesday evening with the occasional Thursday, or weekend, match added.

On Wednesday afternoons lady members compete in the Harrogate and District Ladies League and the men compete in the Dalesman League. For 2008 we have joined the Jack Denning League which plays matches on Thursday evenings in June and early July and is for mixed teams.

The Bowling Green is always open for play and members recognise Monday evenings as practice night. New members and visitors are always welcome and the novice can soon learn the game. You will be made very welcome at this small and friendly club whose green is a delightful setting.

If you would like to join us, or just come along to see if you like the game, then come up to the green on a Monday evening around 6.30pm. We have some spare bowls waiting for you, so if you have a pair of flat-soled shoes come and give it a try.

Kirkby Malzeard Tennis Club

The Tennis Section of the Highside Playing Field Association has approximately 35 adult members and 70 junior members. There are two hard courts and the club enjoys shared access to a Multi Use Games Area which can be used as a third court.

Junior and Adult Tennis Coaching with a LTA Registered Coach is organised and takes place on Wednesdays from 4pm - 9pm from mid April through to mid October. Juniors sign up for a block of 10 lessons in April and 5 lessons in September, although it is possible to join part way through and pay pro rata. Adult coaching is aimed at beginners/intermediate players and is from 8pm any Wednesday - pay on the night.

Where there is sufficient interest, winter coaching is provided, usually on a Sunday afternoon.

One team is entered in the Harrogate and District Junior League with matches played on Friday evenings. Supporters for home matches are always welcome - the juniors play some really great tennis and it is a pleasant way to spend a sunny summer evening!

Club night is on Thursdays from 7pm, light and weather permitting.

New members and visitors are always welcome - come and chat to the coach on a Wednesday or come along to Club night.

Quoits

Quoits are well-established over many years in Kirkby Malzeard and are played at pitches on the Highside Playing Fields.

The Kirkby Malzeard Quoits Team play in the Upper Dales League from May to August on Wednesday evenings. Monday evenings are normally practice nights, and Cup Competitions are usually on a Tuesday evening.
