The Mechanics Institute is a Registered Charity funded by membership
fees and by many fundraising events organised by local people. Many
village meetings and events of all types are held here. The Main Hall,
the Reading Room and the Annexe are available for groups and individuals
to hire.
The Refurbishment and Extension Programme reached completion, and many
residents of Kirkby and area were welcomed to the Official Re-Opening
on Saturday 20 May 2006 at 10.15 am by John Peacock, a long standing
Institute and Committee Member. Thereafter the Hall was open all day
and people were able to view the new facilities available.
