Inbetween Mowbray House and Fountains Dairy on the Ripon Road, you will see a small wooden gate. This is the entrance to a sunken path that leads to St. Andrew's Churchyard.

The path was dug out when the owners of Mowbray House, the Cathcarts (1875-1921), objected to being able to see the workers from Azerley taking a short cut to church.

During the Second World War it was used as the air-raid shelter for the village, and even had electric lights fitted!
