DRs HARFORD-CROSS, HIGSON, AKESTER, ROBERTS & GARDNER

The practice has two surgeries. One at Ashfield House, Kirkby Malzeard and one in Masham on the Market Square. The practice has six doctors, four of whom practice in Kirkby Malzeard. Dr Roger Higson, both Drs Michael and Elizabeth Harford-Cross and the other three doctors all hold surgeries in Masham.

THE DOCTORS

Dr Michael Harford-Cross MA., MB Bchir., DCh., FRCP. Qualified in 1971 from Cambridge University and St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. In 1990, Dr Harford-Cross was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.

Dr Helen Akester B Med Sci., BM BS., DRCOG., MRCGP., MFFP Qualified in 1989 from Nottingham University Medical School. Dr Akester has a special interest in maternity care, women's medicine and adolescent problems.

Dr Gareth Roberts BSc(Hons), MBChB(Hons), MRCGP Qualified in 1994 from Manchester University. Dr Roberts has a special interest in drug & alcohol misuse and in travel & expedition medicine.

Dr Elizabeth Gardner joined the practice in 2007.

Drs Roger Higson and Elizabeth Harford-Cross work solely at the Masham surgery.

PRACTICE STAFF

The practice is organised by a practice manager with the assistance of an office manager and five receptionists.

There is a fully trained practice nurse who is able to give general health advice, attend to blood taking measurements, dressings and travel immunisations as well as routine pill checks, blood pressure checks, and dietary advice.

The practice also has the services of a visiting physiotherapist, health visitor and in-house councillor. In addition there is a close liaison between the practice and district nurses employed by the local hospital trusts.

  • Minor Surgery
  • Family Planning
  • Cervical smears

The practice has been approved for the training of doctors in General Practice. These doctors are fully qualified and in the final stages of their training. Also medical students from the London Teaching Hospitals sometimes sit in on consultations and accompany the doctor on his visits.
